Description
Dioscorea elephantipes
Dioscorea elephantipes has a tuber that sits above the ground and is covered in a corky bark with delicate heart-shaped leaves on vinning stems. Its flowers are greenish yellow (and are dioecious, meaning a plant that has either male or female flowers) which appear in winter.
It is a slow growing, long living succulent that can potentially live for up to 70 years.
How to care for your Dioscorea
Water this plant around the edges of the pot and not directly on the caudex, allow the soil to become almost dry before watering again. Bright direct or indirect to partial shade. As this plant matures it will become somewhat drought resistant.
NB This plant does its own thing, it may become dormant with the vines dying back, if this happens place in a cool place and do not water for a couple of weeks then return it to a bright location and resume watering.
